AsianFanatics has been growing dramaticly since it's beginning and still is growing with a steady pace. Each year, the users online are doubled (we use the users online as an indication of the load.) Hardware limitations were always an issue in the years that AsianFanatics exists.

[edit] Hardware outlined

Server upgrades and additions were necesary (which sometimes requires switching hosting companies). At the time of writing, the current servers used are:

  • Ruby: A Dual Opteron 246, 3GB RAM, 2x120GB HDD. (main server. Serves the forum and database.)
  • Vicky: A AMD Barton 3000, 1GB RAM, 1x80GB HDD (secondary server. Serves subsites like the gallery, a secondary fileserver and acts as a mirror-server. Is also used to load balance queries between the main server)
  • Betty: A P4 2.8hz HT, 1.5GB RAM 2x 120GB HDD. (tertiary server. Acts as a fileserver(mainly images for the gallery) and search-server. Handles off search queries)

[edit] Planned upgrades

  • 1 Vicky will be replaced by a stronger server. Probably a dual (core?) server and will later be used as a fulltime webserver while Ruby acts as fulltime database server.
  • 2 Memory upgrades for Vicky and Ruby
  • 3 Several small servers will be started (probably in the class of 3Ghz or higher. Single core) to act as mirrorservers.
